Volume Control Source Info ========================== The following are "direct" copies from the synths' LED displays. The SYSTEM/MIDI menu /on the JV-1080/ defaults to these values: +----------------------------------------+ |CONTROL ^Control 1 |Control 2 | |ASSIGN1 vAFTERTOUCH |CC11:EXPRESSION| +----------------------------------------+ |CONTROL ^Volume |Aftertouch | |ASSIGN2 |VOLUME |CH&POLY | +----------------------------------------+ NOTE: the SYS-CTRL2 assigment can ALSO be assigned VOL&EXP which is what I recommend and WOULD comply with the MIDI Spec. (JV users, see page 68 of the Owner's Manual). However, because of the "conflict" with the Sys-Ctrl2 assignment, I'd suggest changing it to agree with the XP-50's setting of CC02:BREATH. I believe that the XP-50's "update" to these settings indicates Roland's "awareness" and agreeable solution to the "conflict". The SYSTEM/CONTROL menu /on the XP-50/ defaults to these values: +----------------------------------------+ |C1 ^Assign | Output| |ASSIGN v 97:AFTERTOUCH| BOTH| +----------------------------------------+ |C2 ^Assign | Output| |ASSIGN vCC02:BREATH | BOTH| +----------------------------------------+ |SYS-CTRL^ Control 1| Control 2| |ASSIGN v 97:AFTERTOUCH|CC02:BREATH | +----------------------------------------+ |CONTROL ^ Hold| Peak| Volume| Aftertouch| |SOURCE | OFF| OFF|VOL&EXP| CHANNEL| +----------------------------------------+ The use of VOL&EXP as Control Sources for Volume IS complying with the MIDI Spec. The default Pedal 1 & 2 assignments for the XP-50 are CC07 and CC11 respectfully which "curiously" allows Volume and Expression to be manually controlled. The Volume Control Source (JV Manual pg. 68, XP-50 Manual pg. 59) determines whether Controller 11 is used. I recommend the VOL&EXP setting for compliance with the MIDI Spec.
